NEWARK

NEWARK SHOW - JUNE 2005

It is a great shame that this show clashes with the Le Mans race.  So many Hoodies trek off to France to watch the racing which leaves numbers short for the Newark Show.

The weather was so hot and with very little shade proved quite uncomfortable for many.  However, it seems that those who did attend had a good time as always.  John drove up, following Andy and Connor, on Saturday afternoon, camped overnight and came home after lunch on Sunday.  I don't do the camping thing so stayed home to look after the dog.  I am still sulking having sold my Exmo so might not have been good company around lots of Robin Hoods!!!

Robin Hood won the trophy for the best turn out of cars, naturally.

John felt that generally the show was enjoyable, the new hall was good but there was definite a lack of manufacturers displaying their cars.  It was good to catch up with some other RHOCaR members, but as I said earlier, many were missing since the show clashed with Le Mans.  Thanks to Steve Altwasser for the caramalised bananas, quite a hit with everyone. The camping facilities are adequate, unlike Donnington where they are non-existant!

NEWARK-ON-TRENT SHOW - June 2005

Once again, as seems to be common this year so far, the weather forecast was poor for the weekend.  Reports were that heavy rain was the order of the day on Friday so put some off from going until Saturday.

There must be something in a Hoodie that says: 'I am going to go regardless of the conditions!' it was a brilliant turnout for the Hoods yet again.  John travelled up in the afternoon and had a dry journey until about 15 miles from Newark when the heavens opened (had to stop the car and wait until the rain eased since he couldn't see where he was heading!)

Everyone seemed to enjoy the barbeque in the evening, Andy and Connor Barbet went along and camped with John.  John was trying out his new slightly more roomy tent.  I think it was ok, he seemed happy with it.  I was due to come along on the Sunday, didn't fancy a night on the cold floor with my back the way it is!!!  (Thank heavens I have an excuse, I don't like tents, too close to the bugs)  I will leave it to John to add his comments about the show since I didn't make it after all. I left home early Sunday with Abby wrapped up all warm next to me. It was sunny but cool.  Nearly made it to Peterborough when John said not to bother going any further because of the rain.  It had been getting progressively colder the further up the A1 we went, then darker and darker until I gave in a turned round and went to find other things to do (teddy bear shop, boot sale and Graffam Water) so the day wasn't totally wasted.  Made it home by 12 noon without getting too wet. Left the car back at mum's only to then have a decent afternoon when I could have gone elsewhere in her.  Typical but never mind.  I DID TRY, I am still determined to make it to one show this year in the Exmo.  Over to John for a few words.  Bye from me.

Firstly, great to catch up with everyone again and have a chat over a beer and a burger.  I do feel the show was lacking in stalls, other shows have had more to look at and more to spend my money on!

Nice to meet a few more of the East Anglian Hoodies.  A good turn out on Sunday despite the rain.  Perhaps Donnington will be sunny???  Until next time....

John
