An extremely good turn out, on a very warm sunny day. The pub is by the canal, a few narrow boats passing by.  Many of us had food which was reasonably priced and decent portions.  Good to meet up with another area group.  Five of the Herts group met up first at the Three Moorhens, Hitchin and travelled in convoy through Luton and Dunstable, caused quite a lot of interest.

Saturday 5th July - Milton Keynes

John thought we would take a drive to the Milton Keynes meet, but didnt arrive until about 6pm only to find no one there apart from Nigel, a 2B builder from Leighton Buzzard.  Had a chat and a beer with him and drove all the way back to Stevenage.  Apparently Peter Bell had been there earlier but left before we arrived.

Sunday 6th July - Highwayman, Gravely

The Herts group had a very good turn out.

Mike Gouldsborough/Mario & Rose/Richard Sumner & Daughter/Alan Rowe/Brian Camp & Sam/Chris Brown/John Tween - Hoodies

Dave ? & Daughter - Locost

Helen Tween - Marlin

Bob Hammond - 2B Builder - got the kit, looking for a donor!

Very warm, but loads of thunderbugs!  A dramatic exit was made by everybody! Great stretch of road.

Sunday 20th July  - KIMBOLTON CASTLE COUNTRY FAYRE AND CHARITY CLASSIC (run by the Kimbolton Castle Rotary Club and the Sporting Bears Motor Club supporting Cancer Research and Deafblind.UK)

Chris Brown suggested we get a few Hoodies up to Kimbolton near St Neots just off the A1 to this country fayre.

Chris Brown, John Tween, Mike Montegue, Alan Rowe & Pauline and Helen Tween (Marlin)

The sun was out most of the day, a very well planned show, plenty of classic cars, appearances by Dax, Tiger, Cobras and of course the Hoodies.  Well worth a visit next year, hopefully next time they will respond to Chris or whoever else applies for a club space!  He did try...

Sunday 3rd August 2003 - Lower Stondon Car Museum

It looks like this could well turn out to be an annual event.  Everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed the museum and those who went round the ship, the Endeavour replica, found that very interesting.  Just a shame that it was such a hot day, it was very very warm under cover.  Excellent presentation of a good selection of classic cars, bikes and other modes of transport.  The proprietors are extremely friendly and have taken a photograph to put on their wall showing clubs that have come to the museum.

'Piddy'   -  Thetford, Andy Petrie - Bury St Edmunds, Brian Robins and Adam - Bicester, Mike and Myra, Richard Sumner, Chris Brown, Mario and Rose, Brian Camp, John Tween, Helen and Abby (Marlin)

Builders -  Luke - Amersham,   Dave Buckingham and Mary -                  Bournemouth,  Pete 'Old Git' Cherry.

You can see that the ship now has its rigging, quite something to see in the middle of the countryside!  The car park is much improved since last year and by next visit, it should have a topping of tarmac so it will be even better.  Glad to see that Pete is doing so well after his hip operation.  Thanks to everyone for coming.

Reports continued

Sunday 24th August 2003  -  Knebworth Park, Classic Car Show

A very well attended classic car show in the pretty location of Knebworth House.  £5.50 per person entry fee unless you book in advance with Greenwood Exhibitions when it is £2 for the two day event which covers two adults and two children per car (a little difficult to get that many in a Hood!).

Alan Rowe and Pauline, Mario and Rose, Brian Camp and friend (building a kit at present), John and Sandie in their Cobra and John and Helen in her Marlin

There were also a few other kits there:

Locost, Westfield, Burlington Buretta, Dutton Mellos, 5 other Cobras, Ferrari replica (pontiac converted to look like a Ferrari - Stunning!), Jaguar, TVR Chimera, TVR Taymar(?) etc.

The weather was kinder this year, warm and sunny.  A great deal of interest was shown in the cars and hopefully a few newcomers to the SG7s may come from the show.

Monday 26th August, another day at Knebworth!

Not such a sunny day.  A great day for classic cars, more than yesterday.  Reasonably good auto jumble.  Mario had a good result, he bought a wooden centre console for his fuse box... and two horns.

John and Sandie - Cobra, Mario and Rose, John in Hoods and Helen with the Marlin.

Lots of Cobras, Dutton Melos,  2Westfields, Grinnell (club meet), Dax Rush.  The kit car section had been taken over by the TVR club!!! I don't suppose they would like to be thought of as kits!

Two very good enjoyable days.  So much interest shown in the cars and the SG7 web site.  Definitely a good place to go for a social day out.  Good luck to those who are building or intending to build a kit.  If we can help, we will try.

Good to hear from some newcomers: Jason, Mal and Lynette Gwynne, Doug Ball and Adrian Hutton, with whom we spoke at the show.

Sunday 7th September - The Highwayman, Graveley

What a great turnout we had today!  The forecast had been bad but at the last minute they had a change of heart and said it wouldn't rain until late evening (even then it didn't!).  A good variety of cars turned out for the meet.  It seemed to be the day to be taken out for a spin if you were lucky enough. Chris Brown took a future hoodie Andy Barbet out and convinced him he was doing the right thing, Sandie took John and me out in the Cobra, WOW, fast or what, such a beast (Helen has the burn mark on her ankle to prove it, forgot all about the exhaust pipe being there) , Helen took out Doug Wilson in the Marlin who fell in love with her (the car that is) and bought her that afternoon.. and the Westfield went out as well.

Hoods :  John, Chris Brown, Peter Bell, Mario and Rose, Mike Gouldsborough, Mike Montegue,

Builders:  Pete 'Old Git' Cherry (I really don't think he deserves to be called 'Old  Git')    Andy Barbet, and Doug Willson (his father-in-law, soon to own the Marlin)

Cobra: Sandi, Mike and Rani

Beach Buggy: Sorry didn't get their names, we met them at the Buntingford Classic Show on 6th September.  The Buntingford show is an annual event where classics and sports cars are invited to show themselves in the High Street and car parks in Buntingford.  It is free entry, just have to book in advance. A little rain but generally a very well attended show with lots of interest shown in the cars (John's Hood and Helen's Marlin).  Other kits there were the beach buggy as mentioned, Birkin, Ginetta, Westfield and a couple of others.

Westfield:  Stuart and Elaine,

Westfield builders: Steve and Jacqui

Prospective buyers/builders:  Ricky and Keith Brown

Tin Top:  Alan Rowe and Pauline, Myra Gouldsborough

A raffle was held to help pay towards the barbeque to which everyone was invited. Many couldn't make it for one reason or another.  Those who did come home with us, were taken on a 'show off' detour through the High Street in Stevenage, quite impressive to see the Hoods snaking through the High Street.  We had held a raffle to help pay towards the barbeque, the remainder being kept for the Christmas buffet, if we can arrange it again this year.  (Might possible do another raffle in the October meet if it is a good turnout - any prize contributions would be welcomed).  Last Christmas we had an open house one Sunday in December, I will sort the date out asap so you can keep it clear if you wish to come.

Thank you all for coming along, it was a great day.

DONNINGTON KIT CAR SHOW  - 13/14 September

A really good turnout of Hoods this year.  John went up Saturday for the evening barbeque and stayed over in a tent, a very small tent... looked like a kennel apparently next to Chris Brown's tent!  Great weather, lots of cars and a good friendly atmosphere.  Hoodies from the Herts area included:

Chris, John,

Pete Cherry, Andy Barbet (builders)

Sandie and John (Cobra)

Tin Tops: Alan, Richard and Helen (no car, looking for a Hood!) (Marlin went on Saturday morning to a good new home)

St Mary's Motor Show 2003 (St. Mary's Catholic School, Bishops Stortford - Sunday 21st September

John and Helen went with the Hood to this show, went last year and it was well attended.  Mainly a classic car show but there was a good selection of kits there today, including a very nice Dax, photo can be seen in photos section.  The Beach Buggy was also there, still don't know the owner's name, sorry.  This will be on again next year, Sunday 19th September 2004.  It is free if you pre-book and the driver gets a bacon roll! (Helen ate that, surprise surprise...)  A small auto jumble is there as well, managed to pick up a 38DGAS carb, well pleased, it works too which is even better. Needed some tlc but the car definitely goes better with it on.

A nice day, although you do need to get there early otherwise you end up in the upper field away from the show, not so good.  We were there by 0945 which was in good time.  Worth going to.

DAX Open Day 27th September Harlow

Thought we would be cheeky and turn up at the Dax open day in the Hood!  John and Sandie were there with their Cobra.  Some nice cars.  Pete Cherry's son was also there, he is building a Dax himself.

Sunday 5th October 2003 - Highwayman, Graveley

What a fantastic turnout!  The sky was blue, the sun was shining and so were the cars! We had two new cars to look at, Nick's Fisher Fury and Mal's Westfield.  Hopefully they enjoyed the meeting and will come back next time.  Chris Brown did well on the raffle, won a model 1:18th scale car and a ride out in John and Sandie's Cobra, that certainly put a smile on his face.  Thanks to everyone who came along.

Mario, Peter Bell and Peter, Richard, Chris, John and Helen, Paul Boatman - Hoodies

John and Sandie - Cobra

Mal Gwynne - Westfield

Nick and Alan Ferris - Fisher Fury

Mike Montegue and friend - Hoodie on two wheels!

Pete Cherry (2b builder), Andy Barbet (2b builder) and Doug Willson (proud owner of Helen's Marlin)

Ricky - prospective buyer, hurry up Ricky!

Alisdair and Steph- prospective buyer, looking for a 2B with wishbone suspension. (friends of Paul Boatman)

The meetings are proving to be very successful, relaxed and friendly thanks to everyone for your support.  A deal was done between Helen and Mario so Helen should be back on wheels by the November meet.  She can't wait, she is already browsing the catalogues to see what she can buy for the car!

Even more meeting reports

Sunday November 2nd 2003 - Highwayman, Graveley

I know we shouldn't grumble because we have had such a good season of meetings without rain but to wake up this morning to pouring rain was a big disappointment.  Helen was so hoping to take her new acquisition to the meeting to show off the work I have done so far.  For me it was also a disappointment, having worked on Helen's car now for three weeks, I have not even seen mine!!!! Tucked away in the mother-in-law's garage.  Oh well, at least Helen is not nagging me, not yet anyway...

Considering the weather we had a great turnout, Chris Brown and Peter Bell ventured out in their Hoods but the rest of us stuck to tin tops.

We all had a really good chat over a few drinks in the bar which in itself made a change from being outside with the cars.  Helen was happy at least to be able to talk about her car, even if unable to show it off.  She is now a member of RHoCar in her own name!  No stopping her now.... God help us all!

The following came along:

Alan Rowe, Chris Brown, Peter Bell, Mike Gouldsborough, Adrian Hutton, Elaine and Stuart Travers, Richard Sumner, Andy Barbet, Doug Willson, Rob and Nicki (Rob is hoping to get into kit cars, Nicki is not so sure...[Rob works with John] John and Helen.  Held a raffle again, thank you for supporting that.

Some news from Andy - he now has his donor and is all set to start dismantling it, just needs a kit to put it into now.

Sandie and John didn't make the meeting today but she has now re-named her Dax Rush a Dax Slow, things have not been progressing very quickly lately and she is still not on the road.  Fancy putting the house first?!

Merry Christmas

Our thanks to everyone who came to the Christmas Lunch at the Waggon and Horses in Graveley on 7th December.  We all had a good time, the food went down well, we had a good raffle with loads of prizes and we had a laugh.  Our thanks to the Robin Hood Owners Club and Register (RHOCaR) for contributing towards the lunch.

Anyone wishing to join RHOCaR should contact us and John will sort you out with an application form.  You are welcome to join even if you own another 'breed' of car, in fact it is encouraged by Robin Hood!  There is a great community spirit within RHOCar, the web site is very informative and can source answers to those questions you can't get answered anywhere else.  £15 a year well spent!  Membership also means you can go in the Robin Hood enclosure at shows instead of being lost amongst the crowd in the general car parks.

Merry Christmas to all 'visitors' to the site and hope to see many more people at the regular meetings in 2004.
