DETLING

DETLING 2007

With an excellent forecast for the weekend, we decided to head to Detling on the Saturday to make the most of the weather.  We met up with Richard & Caroline at the Ware junction of the A10, John in his Westfield and me in the Robin Hood.

We had a good drive to Detling without any delays.  Glyn Rust was gathering a convoy meeting at the Lakeside Services, but we decided to make our own way there.  He had six cars in the convoy so that was good.

There were some interesting cars on display other than kit cars, below are a few photos of my favourites:

The show was well attended by most of the major manufacturers. Met up with Steve Hole of Total Kitcars Magazine, had a chat with the guys from Sebring (fell in love with the 3.9 Rover engined car in red and cream, for a mere £35,000 it could be mine.....) prefered it to the 5.7 chevy engined single colour Sebring.  We soon established that the boot is about the size of the Mx-5 so would be very practical for doing the week's shop!

We had a long chat with the Westfield stand guys, very interested in how the Mazda MX-5 engine fits into a Westy, worried now that John might have his eyes on my car!  Might even book a test drive in one some time.

As in the past, the show was geared up for the whole family with a few funfair rides for the kids, plenty of eating bars (a bit expensive as always) plenty of auto jumble and trade stalls and a good following of people coming along to have a look at the cars etc.

Met up with:

Glyn Rust, Alan & Josh, Jason Burke, Tim Norman & Peter Knights (Rhocar), Simon Trigg & family, and chatted quite a lot of people showing interest in the cars.

Detling, Kent - 2006

The Stafford show having been cancelled made the Detling Show the first big show of the year.  Last year's show at Detling was much improved by the addition of the big new exhibition hall, which proved a great success again this year, especially as a warm haven from another very cold, windy day.

When we arrived at the show and met up with Richard and Caroline, we spent ages in the hall, having a good look at what is on offer in the kit world.  Most of the major production companies were represented with some very smart cars to tempt us to part with our money.

What did we buy?... a wrench set, a plug for the cigarette lighter, some black vinyl for John to sort the boot on his hood oh and I bought some notelets, there were a few stalls there for the girls.  I still feel the entrance fee of £8 each is steep for what you get.  I tried to get John to sign up to buy a kit, still working on him.  Speaking to Andy Barbet via texting he asked if I would take over John's Hood were he to buy a new one to build.  Hmmmmm, you know the thought never even crossed my mind!!!!  (I am still paying rent on my mum's empty garage just in case I manage to sway him and need somewhere to keep a car)  Time will tell.

By the time we made our way to the outdoor section where the kits were parked, many of the Robin Hoods had already left.  We arrived in time to watch Will and Glyn Rust driving off.  Met up with Chris Brown, thanks to him for letting me sit on the edge of his car.  Sorry to miss Mr Altwasser, he went on Saturday with the promise of better weather.

Glyn took some photos which he has kindly 'donated' to the web site, we had our camera with us but forgot to take photos.

You can see from the photos how cold and bleak it looks.

Another enjoyable day out with the kitcar world, let's hope it warms up before we go to Stoneleigh in a few weeks.

Until next time.

Helen and John
