AUGUST 2007 MEETING HIT RECORD TEMPERATURES AND NUMBERS

LADIES ARE MADE VERY WELCOME, NOT JUST A CLUB FOR THE BOYS!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Dear Reader,
It would seem that the camping trip was another successful venture and one to be repeated again next year. The June meeting went well despite a slightly grim forecast with 20 cars present and we had an enjoyable day at Knebworth House on Father's Day.
If you are a new reader to the SG7s website, welcome! We hope you find something here that will interest you from photos of other kitcars to information about club meeting dates, annual events and reports, some submitted by other members, which are always welcomed. We do our best to go to as many of the shows as possible but don’t always manage to do them all. The club is a mix of SG7s Kit Car Club and the Robin Hood Owners Club and Register (RHOCaR). If you wish to be added to our list to receive regular e-mail updates, please contact us on 07725 227590 or h.tween@btinternet.com and we will ensure that you are added.
You will find on the list of contents that we have a For Sale section and a Show Dates/Diary section listing the meetings of our club and also those of many other clubs we are associated with. If you have a link that we could add that might be of use to ‘members’ please also get in touch. We refer to ‘members’ although there is no actual membership fee for joining the club. Just turn up at a meeting and say ‘hi’. We do charge a £1 attendance fee per person. In return for this you will receive a raffle ticket and the chance to win a bottle of booze! We used to do a full raffle, but due to lack of time, we decided to change to the new system. We do this to raise funds to run the website and for food etc at the events we go to (bacon butties always seem to go down the best!).
The club was initially set up to find other like-minded people who have an interest in kitcars and in fact cars in general. We have certainly achieved this judging by the range of cars we see at monthly meets. John took on the Area Secretary post for RHOCaR covering the Hertfordshire area which gave us the ability to draw in more ‘members’ from the RHOCaR group. We have been so successful, that Martin Pidd, Area Secretary for East Anglia has followed our lead and now runs the East Anglian Kit Car Club and after his first meeting, the number of cars attending the meeting doubled. Glyn Rust, Area Secretary for Essex, is also in the throws of setting up a similar club in his area. We wish them both every success.
What we did in 2007!
To give an insight into what the club spends its time doing during the year we have, as well as the monthly meetings which ran from February to December 2007 (January to November 2008), we have also had the following outings:
National Kit Car Show Stoneleigh
National Kit Car Show Detling
Lower Stondon Motor Museum
Ace Café
Old Warden Classic Car Show (spoilt by rain this year)
Battlesbridge Classic Car Show
Total KitCar Live (get the chance to be driven round the track, very fast, in a variety of kitcars)
Camping near Ely
Codicote Village Day (took part in the carnival)
Kimbolton Castle Country Fayre (Sporting Bears)
Total KitCar Live (again)
Hot Rod and Custom Car Show at Old Warden
Knebworth Classic Car Show (camped overnight!)
Buntingford High Street Car Show
Wheel Meet Again at St Mary’s School Bishops Stortford
Imperial War Museum, Duxford
The August meeting topped all previous records with 33 cars turning up in the car park (photo above). It is great to get the support from everyone and hope the club continues to grow in 2008. We have, as usual, lost a few members along the way, they have either moved away, sold their cars or just lost interest in the kitcar world. We hope to see some new faces this year, so please come along and join in.
As mentioned above, any input from readers is welcomed as are private adverts, useful links, photos etc. Please contact us or just come along to a monthly meeting. We are waiting for dates to be published for 2008’s major shows which will determine when the monthly meetings take place. Generally speaking, the meets take place on the first Sunday of each month, at the George IV Public House in Baldock, SG7 6LZ, but if this clashes with a major event, we shift the meeting either forward or back a week.
If you have been to the website before welcome back!
Happy Motoring in 2008! We are looking forward to another successful year; we could just really do with slightly better weather than was dished out in 2007 (it is now June and the weather has been very disappointing).

Thank you for looking!
General information about the Club
Meetings are well supported, friendly and at times very useful! A good place to pick someone's brains about problems you are encountering. If you have problems, ask anyone at a meeting and they will point you in the direction of someone who can help.
There are no membership fees for this club but from the October 2007 meeting onwards we will now ask for a £1 donation per person for which you will be given a raffle ticket and there will be a draw for one prize only which will be a bottle of drink. We asked 'members' for their opinion on us doing this to get approval before we decided to go ahead.
Whether you own a car, are building one, are thinking of buying one or just love looking at cars, we meet regularly at the George IV, Baldock, Herts. (A very appropriate venue since the postcode for the pub is SG7!) The menu is very good, the car park is split into higher and lower levels , we take over this higher level, with fields to the back of it. Plenty of garden benches to sit at and have a drink on those hot, sunny (ever hopeful) days. The staff continue to make us very welcome in a friendly atmosphere. We have held our Christmas parties there for the last four years which have been very good. The August meet was the best meeting, really hot and sunny, perfect for showing the cars off at their best.

Beware: there is a gully that runs across the car park between the lower and upper levels, mind the bump!
Since starting the meetings back in July 2002, we now have a wide variety of cars that come to the meetings, including Robin Hood, Cobra, Dax Rush, Westfield, Locost, Beach Buggy, Fisher Fury, Banham Sprint, Marlin, NG, Locust, MNR Vortx, Caterham, Porsche Spyder replica, Raw Striker, Ronart, a Model Ford T and an Ultima, Hot Rods and the occasional classic car. We have outings, barbeques, a Christmas do and of course the monthly meet on the first Sunday of each month (unless otherwise notified - see the diary section). If it rains, come in your 'tintop'. Either John or I will always endeavour to be there (not missed a meeting yet - always managed to get either John or myself along to the meets. There are annual events such as the shows at Detling (Kent), Castle Donnington (not sure if this will be on but there is to be a show at Stafford at the same time Donnington was scheduled to take place), Stoneleigh , Newark, Brands Hatch (Total Kitcar Live) and Exeter. It is good to meet up with other SG7 members at the shows. The overnight camping/barbeque is a hit with everyone who joins in. Sometimes the major shows clash with the first weekend meeting date so again check the diary section to see what changes might be made to the meeting times.
John became area secretary for the Robin Hood Owners Club and Register http://www.rhocar.org/news.php in 2004 and combines the SG7 and RHOCaR activities together resulting in good, well attended meets.
We hope you can find the time to join a meeting. Take a look at the 'profiles' section to help put names to faces so you know who we are.
